Posted in News by A2IM

On Friday A2IM will be announcing this year’s final nominees for the Libera Awards (aka LIBBY Awards) as determined by an industry wide vote of music experts from tastemakers and VIPs from digital, distribution, marketing, licensing, retail and radio partners.  A2IM members will vote for this year’s LIBBY Award winners.

Each A2IM member company is permitted up to 5 voters.  We’re inviting you now to select who your (up to) 5 voters will be and to send them to Sheryl Cohen by end of day Thursday, April 24th.

LIBBY Award voters must be full-time employees or owners of the A2IM member company they’ll be representing.

Each voting member of A2IM will receive their ballots when we announce this year’s finalists on Friday, April 25th.  Winners will be announced and celebrated at the live Libera Awards ceremony at Highline Ballroom in NYC on Thursday, June 19th capping off Indie Week.

The independent music community converged on NYC’s Highline Ballroom last night (6/20) for A2IM’s second annual Libera Awards (”The LIBBYs”) co-presented by Caroline. With over 400 people representing the independent music industry from around the world and across every imaginable genre, the room was packed with labels big and small, music service providers and coveted LIBBY statuettes, hand-sculpted from wire and wood.

Dualtone Music Group led the night’s celebrations taking home three LIBBY awards, including one of the Label of the Year titles, followed by Glassnote Records and ATO which each scored two wins for their work with Mumford & Sons and Alabama Shakes, respectively.

“Congratulations to all LIBBY winners and nominees for being recognized by their peers in the independent music community,” said A2IM Vice President Jim Mahoney. “Tonight’s awards truly captured the diversity, strength and spirit that we feel defines the Independent music community and A2IM couldn’t be happier to celebrate all of the remarkable Independent accomplishments from the past year.”

We believe in great music and we believe in the albums we release at Dualtone, so it’s especially rewarding when it connects with commecial success.”

A2IM Honors Tom Silverman, Tommy Boy Founder, with Libera Awards Lifetime Achievement Award

John Ross Bowie to Host the LIBBY Awards Event at Highline Ballroom on June 20

The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) is proud to announce that the second annual Libera Awards Lifetime Achievement Award will honor Tom Silverman, Founder and CEO of TommY BoY. Silverman will be presented with the award at the event on June 20 at NYC’s Highline Ballroom.

A founding Board Member of A2IM, Tom Silverman has been a devoted and passionate leader for the independent music community throughout his tremendously successful career.  In addition to the important work Tom has contributed to the independent cause, he is recognized throughout the music industry for two very significant contributions: founding independent record label TommY BoY and launching the New Music Seminar (NMS).  TommY BoY pioneered the early days of hip-hop with such artists as De La Soul, Digital Underground, Queen Latifah, Naughty by Nature, House of Pain and Coolio; electronic music with artists like Information Society, LFO, Coldcut and 808 State; freestyle with TKA; LGBT music with RuPaul; and the mega music compilations with “MTV Party to Go” and “ESPN Jock Jams.” The New Music Seminar launched in 1980 and can accurately be described as a pre-cursor to many of the major music conferences on our calendars today.  NMS continues this year, running June 9-11 in NYC.  Silverman currently serves on the boards of A2IM and SoundExchange.

Returning for a second year, actor/comedian John Ross Bowie will host the Libera Awards (”The LIBBYs”), and artist Zak Gere will design and hand-sculpt each individual award from wood and wire.

Martin Mills received the first annual Libera Awards Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.

See the full list of independent labels, artists, and supporters that received final nominations for the second annual A2IM LIBBYs HERE.

A2IM thanks Caroline, ADA, A to Z Media, Bandzoogle, Believe Digital, eMusic, Getty Images Music, Silva Screen Music Group, Spotify, and The Orchard for their sponsorship of the second annual LIBBYs.
