A2IM Virtual Indie Week 2020: Start Watching (or Re-Watching) The Panels Now!
If you were unable to join us this year or if you were able to join us but wanted to re-watch any of the panels, now is your chance. Between now and the end of the year, we will be releasing two new videos per week on our official A2IM YouTube channel, A2IM Indie Week 2020 Playlist.
- This week’s videos include:
- You’re Losing Money, Why Bad Metadata is to Blame
The music industry’s metadata problems are preventing rights’ holders from earning revenue. Why is this process so fragmented? How can our systems be improved?
- Cherie Hu; Emerging Technologies
Writer and Analyst, Cherie Hu provides an overview of the emerging technologies and business models that have gained new ground amidst the pandemic (e.g. live streaming, membership/fan-club tools like Patreon, “tipping” culture, virtual avatars, remote collaboration) and their systemic long-term impact on how the music industry works
Check back here each week, or go directly to our Official A2IM YouTube Channel; Indie Week 2020 Playlist to see what’s new!
A2IM is a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit trade organization headquartered in New York City that exists to support and strengthen the independent recorded music sector. Membership currently includes a broad coalition of more than 700 Independently-owned American music labels. A2IM represents these independently owned small and medium-sized enterprises’ (SMEs) interests in the marketplace, in the media, on Capitol Hill, and as part of the global music community. In doing so, it supports a key segment of America’s creative class that represents America’s diverse musical cultural heritage. Billboard Magazine identified the Independent music label sector as 37.32 percent of the music industry’s U.S. recorded music sales market in 2016 based on copyright ownership, making Independent labels collectively the largest music industry sector.
