Our friends at WIN (Worldwide Independent Network) are seeking your answers to a few short, easy questions.  Our growing worldwide membership provides an opportunity to run the first ever global survey of the independent sector of the music industry.

With the support of A2IM members, this survey could result in a very useful report on our sector and for A2IM members themselves through publication of the report.

Dear Member,

PPL, the UK’s society for the collection and distribution of public performance and broadcast income, is changing its distribution policy to close previous distributions prior to the statutory limitation period of 6 years. This means that unclaimed income will only be held for a period of six years. The last date to claim unclaimed income from the previous years is 26th July 2010.

So, in the next month, there is a major effort to identify the rights owners of tracks, which have earned public performance and/or broadcast income in the UK between 1996-2003.

If you believe you may have had airplay or public performance in the UK for specific songs/artists within this period, and you were a member of PPL during this time, you may be eligible to claim the income. If you are not a direct member, but your distributor was a member during this period, they may be able to process the claim on your behalf.

Once again hundreds of independent music community members will descend on New York City for Indie Week hosted by A2IM. The weeklong event features conferences, panels, meetings and sponsored events circling the main theme of how a music label business adapts to the evolving music market place. The annual event attracts international members from the World Independent Network, including the WIN chair Alison Wenham, president of the UK independent music label trade organization AIM, as well as an expected 300-plus person guestlist for the other events throughout the week.

Hosted by A2IM during Indie Week, including A2IM’s 5th Anniversary celebrations

WIN members, including all A2IM label members, are invited to the worldwide independent network’s 2010 summer Board meeting in New York on June 18th, and to take part in other Indie Week events being organized by A2IM, with an expected guest list of 300-plus.  If you’d like to attend the WIN Board meeting RSVP via email to jen@a2im.org.

A key event will be another international WIN Think Tank on the health and prospects of the independent music sector, with an opportunity to update the indies’ Road Map which emerged from the 2009 session.

Full details of the WIN meeting venue and agenda will follow, along with information about the discounted hotel block booking which our hosts – for the second consecutive year- are currently working to arrange. As before, this programme of events can be a great opportunity for WIN members to combine attending the Board meeting with doing business in the USA, or with taking a short family vacation, or doing all three.
