A2IM has written a statement to the Judiciary Committees of the Senate and House of Representatives on the recently introduced legislation entitled The Internet Radio Fairness Bill (H.R. 6480/S. 3609). This bill, if passed, would greatly reduce the royalties paid to performing artists and labels by webcasters. The statement underscored our community’s support and appreciation for webcasters, internet radio and the access provided to Indies and renewed our position that the first step Congress needs to take towards creating “radio fairness” is to enact a terrestrial radio performance right to compensate performers and labels, and made clear that the royalty reductions called for in this bill would be unfair to artists and labels.
