Rich Bengloff quoted in the LA Times “SXSW 2012: Artists, You Have 42 Different Ways to Make Money”

Pop & Hiss, the LA Times music blog was at SXSW 2012 and took the temperature on the state of the music industry noting “The music industry in 2012 was characterized as one of “micro-pennies” at this year’s South by Southwest festival and conference. The phrase was used by Rich Bengloff, who heads indie label trade group the American Assn. of Independent Music. “Access and getting noticed is harder because everyone has access,” he said.  Read the full article HERE.

Future of Music Coalition (“FMC”) Revenue Study

As you know at the A2IM annual meeting in June we had over 100 WIN and A2IM members participate in a think tank discussion on the top revenue sources for music labels.  Our friends at FMC and our friend, former SoundExchange ED John Simson, are doing a study on revenues from a recording artist and songwriter perspective. Verizon-Google: A Point-By-Point Analysis by Future of Music Coalition.

Our friends at the Future of Music Coalition have written a point-by-point analysis of the Verizon-Google proposal that we think A2IM members might find informative.

On Monday, August 9, 2010, Verizon and Google released a joint proposal for a legislative framework for broadband internet service. Although the proposal has no legal effect on its own, it is important to understand because it could serve as a model for future legislation or FCC rulemaking. We weighed in yesterday via a short media statement, which you can read here.

Over the past 24 hours, we realized there was a need to go through the proposal point-by-point and examine how the agreement might impact independent musicians and other creators, were it to be adopted as public policy.
