Stealing Music Sucks PSAs: how to roll this out

Posted in Advocacy by A2IM

A2IM is asking for your help:

If there’s one thing we can all agree on it’s that STEALING MUSIC SUCKS. But we need you — and your artists, staff, and friends — to join our independent music label members to engage in a conversation with music fans to educate, inform, and effect change.

We believe this conversation must be led by artists and that this conversation is worth having. While a series of failed initiatives by the “music industry” may give pause, there’s plenty of cause for optimism as well — with a good example being the reaction in the press and from other musicians to Lily Allen’s blog post about P2P file sharing.

Pre-CMJ 2010 Tech Day Wrap-Up

Posted in Events, Member Services by A2IM

Oct. 19, 2009 — Tech Day presented by our New Media Committee was yet another success.  Our third installment included thought-provoking presentations from A2IM members appliedSB, Audiolife, FanMail Marketing, Insound and Topspin with a networking mixer that followed.  The presentations were based around the recent release of an Email Marketing White Paper (composed by Jon Satterley of Roadrunner Records) and a Direct to Fan (D2F) White Paper (composed by Edith Bellinghausen of Razor & Tie), both whom moderated their respective topic presentations.  A lot of you have been requesting presentations from each of the presenters.  See below for a copy of each.  We’re still awaiting a copy from a few of the presenters, so please revisit periodically as this post will be updated as the remaining presentations are submitted.  We’d like to thank A2IM’s New Media committee for inviting our presenters and coordinating this portion of the event.

Following the presentations, the room transitioned into a networking mixer featuring presentations from Americ Disc, Audiolife, CD Velocity, Disc MakersMusic Manufacturing Services, & Ross-Ellis where our members met fellow manufacturers & members over cocktails and treats.  We’d like to thank our NYC chapter chairs Lori Hon (Gray V), Stephanie Jo Klein (ObliqSound) and Hyla Urbany (ADA) for all of their hard work coordinating this portion of the event.  We’d like to especially thank Stephanie Jo for securing our donations to the event:  Cellar No. 8Crispin Hard CiderLARABARRicola USA, & Snow Beverages.

A BIG thanks to Audiolife for sponsoring the entire event!

Video: Tech Day (Please excuse the production value as it came from a built-in laptop webcam angled below the stage.  We will be improving this for future events with higher quality live and recorded streams.)

Feedback: As a follow up, we’d greatly appreciate if you’d fill out this 10 question survey.  Thank you.

A2IM Tech Day NYC

Posted in Events, Newsletter by

A2IM would like to invite all A2IM members to a Tech Day Event and cocktail party on the day prior to the CMJ Festival (NYC, Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 starting at 3:30pm).

Hosted by the A2IM New Media Committee, this Tech Day will feature presentations and question & answer sessions on the topics of Email Marketing and Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) Marketing.  Mark your calendar so that you can attend this edition of Tech Day (we’ll send another email with more specific details as they are confirmed). It will be our 3rd such event and the two previous have been very informative and no doubt benefited the members who attended.

Following Tech Day, A2IM will host a Cocktail Party starting at 6pm and open to all members.  Last February’s pre-Digital Music Forum: East and last October’s pre-CMJ Tech Day and Cocktail Party were both great successes with over 70 attendees at each Tech Day and over 130 attendees at each Cocktail Party.

Mark your calendars! We hope to see you then!

A2IM At The Forefront As Indies Embrace New Models At CMJ 2009

Right now, independent labels must embrace new models, new technology, and new ways of doing business as they chart a course for the future. As A2IM sees it, with independents accounting for an ever-growing percentage of overall market share, growth in these areas is essential not just to indies, but as part of the music industry’s future viability.
