Indies Still #1; Independent Market Share Increases to 35.1% in 2014!. According to Billboard Magazine, 2014’s year-end Nielsen Music statistics (based on master ownership) reveal that Independent labels were 35.1% of the overall U.S. recorded music industry, up from 34.6% in 2013 and 30.2% in 2012.  Once again, the Independent Music market share gained more sales than any of the major label groups. Congrats to all our members!

We also congratulate our colleagues at Big Machine for the #1 album of the year, Taylor Swift’s ‘1989,’ which sold 3.6 Million albums last year.
