A2IM, on behalf of our label members, meets regularly with senior execs at A2IM associate member Clear Channel Media + Entertainment.  The purpose of these meetings is to explore ways by which A2IM can expose Clear Channel to great independent music for consideration for their FM radio stations.  Help us help you.  We’re looking for info about your radio priorities.

Clear Channel’s leading programmers are interested in hearing from A2IM members about their “Biggest Stories of the Moment” for airplay consideration (or to increase airplay on those records that have received some play but evidence indicates should be getting more).

A2IM’s Radio Committee and senior executives from Clear Channel Radio continue to meet and discuss avenues to increase A2IM label member airplay on Clear Channel’s FM radio stations.

During our conversations, Clear Channel revealed that each of their stations has dedicated programming for independent and local music and that most of this music is submitted to them and discovered by their programmers via their New! Discover & Uncover Music program.

Members of A2IM’s Radio Committee and senior executives from Clear Channel Radio constructed a small but representative list of A2IM label members to participate in the first ever Clear Channel Indie Label Summit in NYC on June 2^nd.

A2IM’ers representing our entire label membership met with and presented to top program directors from Clear Channel with the event’s focus being (a) to establish or strengthen relationships between these top programmers and A2IM’s proud and successful independent music labels and (b) to find ways to work together to improve access at FM radio for independent labels and our artists.  Our ultimate goal, of course, is to increase the independent percentage of spins at FM radio where we currently receive approximately 10% of spins (as opposed to the nearly 40% independents get at web radio or the 38% market share independents have in U.S. digital album sales).

The event, which was borne out of conversations between Tom Silverman (Tommy Boy) and Clear Channel chiefs Bob Pittman and Tom Poleman came together with very short notice but our label members rose to the occasion and truly impressed on behalf of our entire community.  The Summit was a successful first step, with more than one Clear Channel programmer remarking afterward that A2IM’s was the very best of the presentations they saw during their 2 days of Summit meetings.

The A2IM Radio Committee will be working on follow-up action items to be announced to our membership as soon as possible.
