Small working group seeking initiatives at commercial radio to increase opportunities for independent music on the radio dial.
Independent music accounts for 30% of all sales (and 38% of digital sales) in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan. Independent music accounts for approximately 40% of webcasting radio according to playlist reports at SoundExchange. However, independent music accounts for only approximately 10% of spins at commercial radio in the U.S. according to BDS and MediaBase.
A2IM’s radio committee sees this as a growth opportunity for radio and our goal is to serve as a resource to help interested radio partners work more effectively with great independent labels to the mutual benefit of radio, radio fans, and independent artists and labels.
