GroupBANDIT RECORDS was established as an independent record company in 200l as a partnership between country music legend GEORGE JONES and his wife, NANCY; EVELYN SHRIVER; SUSAN NADLER and JOAN and KENNY SIMS. SHRIVER was the first female president of a major label in the history of country music when she took over the helm of Asylum Records (part of the AOL Time Warner Music Group). NADLER was Executive VP/A&R. Though neither had ever worked at a label, their different approach to the record business resulted in two Grammy wins during their first year of business. Among their first signings at Asylum was the legendary GEORGE JONES. BANDIT was established when Asylum Records was closed by AOL Time Warner as part of its corporate consolidation. Though Jones could have remained with Warner Bros. Records, he chose to leave the entertainment conglomerate to create a new company with his friends. The philosophy of BANDIT RECORDS is to create unique, interesting projects with artistic integrity that can operate free from the constraints of the corporate music industry.Site Wide Tags: Country

GroupScott Borchetta founded independent label Big Machine Records in September 2005 and serves as its President/CEO. In its first year Big Machine scored its first #1 single (Jack Ingram’s “Wherever You Are”), placed five singles in the Country Top 30, received a nomination for Record Label of the Year, and placed all three of the label's three new artist releases in the Top 10 Most-Played New Artists of 2006 (as monitored by Mediabase and reported by USA Today and Country Aircheck). Big Machine’s signature artist Taylor Swift (the CMA and AP’s reigning Entertainer of the Year and the American Music Awards’ 2009 Artist of the Year) was the best-selling all-genre artist of 2008 and her current album, Fearless, repeated her success when it became 2009’s highest-selling album of the year across all genres. Fearless - the Country Music Association, Academy of Country Music and American Music Awards’ 2009 Country Album of the Year - has spent more weeks at #1 atop the Billboard Top Album chart than any other album in the last 10 years with an astounding 11 weeks at #1. Taylor re-wrote the record books when her worldwide smash single "Love Story" became the first ever Country crossover single to hit #1 on the Billboard and USA Today Top 40 airplay charts. Her follow-up single, “You Belong With Me,” repeated the same feat. Big Machine Records, was Billboard’s #1 Top Country Album Imprint of 2009, decorating it as the highest-selling record label group on Music Row. In 2009, Big Machine partnered with Universal Republic to create Republic Nashville. The Big Machine Label Group’s current artist roster includes Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Reba McEntire, Jewel, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, Jack Ingram, Justin Moore, Steel Magnolia, The Band Perry, Edens Edge, Eli Young Band and Sunny Sweeney. In 4 years, Big Machine Records artists have received 6 Country Music Association Awards, 6 American Music Awards, 4 Academy of Country Music Awards, 4 CMT Music Awards, 3 Teen Choice Awards, 1 MTV Video Music Award as well as 13 GRAMMY Nominations and 5 People’s Choice Award Nominations. Big Machine Records is the parent label for the successful independent label, The Valory Music Company that features the artists Jewel, Reba McEntire, Justin Moore and Brantley Gilbert.

GroupBig Picnic Records, distributed by Sony/RED, launched in 2013. The label has a strategic relationship with Paradigm Talent Agency. Paradigm's Marty Diamond will provide A&R support to label general manager Patti Hauseman. Big Picnic's first release was the Shoestring EP by British singer/songwriter WALL on April 2, 2013. Influenced by artists such as St Vincent and Patti Smith, WALL takes her lead from women with a strong sense of identity. Favoring rudimentary recording equipment over state-of-the-art studios, WALL creates sparse soundscapes, with only muted bass lines and scattered keyboards to frame her voice. Pitchfork said of the EP's title track, "'Shoestring' feels like having a necessarily intimate conversation in a busy public place: there may be bigger and louder things going on elsewhere, but right now hearing what Wall has to say is the only thing that matters." Big Picnic's initial roster also includes Foxes and JOHNNYSWIM. Foxes is the alter ego of the London-based singer and musician Louisa Rose Allen. Her debut single "Youth," with its resplendent synths, industrial percussion and by turns searing and soaring vocal, garnered more than two million combined Soundcloud and YouTube plays, and 13,000 Hypemachine 'likes,' plus synchs on CW's "Gossip Girl." She followed it up with the "Warrior" EP in the summer of 2012, and is the featured vocalist on Zedd's fast-rising EDM single "Clarity." JOHNNYSWIM is the Los Angeles duo of Amanda Sudano and Abner Ramirez. The two began writing and singing together in 2006 and found that their similar influences of folk, soul, and rock blended together lusciously. Nashville's daily newspaper, The Tennessean, describes JOHNNYSWIM as "a mix of Lauryn Hill and John Mayer."

Group.Somewhere along the line, the term music business began to take on a new meaning. It seems more and more the music has become more about business, and less and less about music. We live in a reality show world, where everything is about shock effect, and substance seems to be taking a back seat to marketing. The problem is, you need something to market. Black River was started for the sole purpose of giving the music back to the fans who long for it. We believe that if you record great artist with great music and get it directly to the fans, they will buy it. It's really that simple. What's complicated is getting past the politics and the industry with the deep pockets who control how music is delivered to the fans. We believe in the power of the internet to connect fans, to promote artists and the music they make, and to allow fans to be the ones who decide whether or not they like or dislike something. It's time for the music business to come of age and accept the realities of the new avenues open to them via the internet. We also believe radio and the internet should be partners, not adversaries in this process. BRMG is dedicated to finding the means necessary to give great music to the fans who want it so much. Also, BRMG will strive to provide conventional radio and retailers the chance to partner with new technology to give music fans more options than ever before to support their artists, while creating exciting opportunities for the industry to grow. Great artists.....great music.....great product. It's a new world for the business of music, and change is in the air. Can you feel it?Site Wide Tags: Country

GroupOnce upon a time there was a teenage rocker named Joan Jett. She was making rock and roll history in a teenage group called The Runaways. When that band broke up, she met hit songwriter/producer Kenny Laguna. They saw in each other a kindred spirit and set about to work together. Kenny thought she was great, and expected no problem convincing record labels to put out the record they had just finished. But he was wrong; Joan Jett was rejected by 23 labels. They turned down "Bad Reputation". They turned down " Do You Wanna Touch Me". They could not hear the potential of " I Love Rock n' Roll" or "Crimson and Clover". So Joan and Kenny decided to start their own record company, manufacture their own records, and sell them...sometimes from the trunk of Kenny’s Cadillac. Blackheart Records was born and Joan Jett became the first woman in rock and roll to own her own record company. Blackheart Records is currently home to such up-and-coming groups as San Antonio-based female threesome Girl In A Coma (Both Before I'm Gone, Trio B.C., Adventures in Coverland) and Los Angeles' pop-punk trio the Dollyrots (Because I'm Awesome) and of course Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. The label’s catalog includes The Vacancies, The Cute Lepers, The Eyeliners and more, while continuing to add new artists to its roster.Site Wide Tags: Indie Rock

GroupSince 1994, Bloodshot Records has championed music that lurks between genres; the good stuff nestled in the dark, nebulous cracks where punk, country, soul, pop, bluegrass, blues and rock mix and mingle and mutate. Bloodshot artists work over American roots forms with chains and velvet gloves with little regard for formality or protocol; they aren't afraid to molest and caress these forms to take music into uncharted and exciting waters. Bloodshot and it's artists share a punk/DIY ethic of expression. Bloodshot's artist roster includes: Bobby Bare Jr., Detroit Cobras, Scott H. Biram, The Bottle Rockets, Deadstring Brothers, Gore Gore Girls, Wayne Hancock, Graham Parker, The Silos, Waco Brothers, and Wee Hairy Beasties. From Bloodshot's shabby offices on a bleak stretch of the Northwest Side of Chicago, the label forges ahead in an environment hostile to the little guy, keeping its steel-toed boot on the throats of the forces responsible for the free fall decline of the contemporary music scene.

GroupBlue Horizon Records was the UK’s most influential blues label with more chart success than all other blues related labels could muster collectively. Established by Sire Records founders Richard Gottehrer and Seymour Stein with producer Mike Vernon, the name Blue Horizon has become synonymous with the blues boom of the '60s and '70s and was the home for blues artists like Otis Spann, The Fleetwood Mac Blues Band, Chickenshack (Christine Perfect (McVie)’s first band), Champion Jack Dupree, Bukka White, Mississippi Joe Callicot & Furry Lewis, Eddie Boyd (Get the “Dust My Broom” album), Ansley Dunbar, Elmore James, and the amazing “Fleetwood Mac In Chicago.” In 2010, together with Richard Gottehrer and with the blessing of Warner Bros. Records, Seymour Stein reformed Blue Horizon Records. “Our first signing, the Austin based psychedelic band, Black Angels was released this past Autumn and is off to a great start, having entered at number 50 on the Billboard Charts”. “These are the things: developing new markets and taking chances early on with new artists are what I feel are most important and actively supporting these two causes is how I would most like to spend the remainder of my days in the music business, however long that may be.” The label is also looking to sign and record new artists to help keep the blues alive.

But I see music as life. I see music as inspiration." For more than 35 years, Burning Spear's music-thus, his life-has inspired people on numerous continents. Since the beginning, his songs have implored listeners to fight oppression in all its forms, to work at improving their own condition and to consider the social impact of their actions. No matter who looks at Burning Spear's career, they have to be impressed. Of his more than 25 albums, ten have earned Grammy nominations, with two of them - 1999's CALLING RASTAFRI & 2009’s JAH IS REAL - receiving the Academy's Best Reggae Album honor. GroupSince its inception on July 14, 1994, Fat Beats, Inc. has had one mission: to become the international Mecca for true lovers of Hip Hop. Owned by Joseph Abajian (DJ, B-Boy, and producer, DJ Jab), and partners with Ryan Sikorski in the Amsterdam operation, Fat Beats first opened it's doors as a small, retail store in a basement location at 323 East 9th Street in Manhattan's East Village. Since then, Jab has seen his company explode all over the place -- worldwide that is -- Fat Beats Retail has locations in NYC, LA and Amsterdam; Fat Beats Distribution is the premier international independent distribution company specializing in vinyl; Fat Beats Records is a rapidly emerging force as an independent label marketing and promoting it¹s own releases to tremendous early success; and the newly operational www.fatbeats.com is destined to corner the market in on-line hip hop sales. Specializing in hard to find vinyl independents, classics, break beats, dj paraphernalia and merchandise such as clothing, turntables, slip mats, and dj needles (as well as cd¹s and cassettes), Fat Beats Retail is THE spot for the music lover with a passion for all things hip hop. The retail stores super-serve the market that the owner and CEO considers himself a part of: the true Hip Hop head. Nothing happens in Hip Hop that the Fat Beats consumer doesn¹t know about. To keep up with the consumer, Fat Beats employees are likely to be top area djs and a true representation of the customer visiting the store. There are current discussions on going regarding the opening of new Fat Beats Retail locations in several major markets spanning the globe.

Since then, the label has become one of America's premier channels for forward-thinking music, releasing music from artists like Matthew Dear, Dabrye, Mobius Band, Solvent and Christopher Willits. From Indie to Hip-Hop, Electro to Ambient, Ghostly celebrates a diversity of styles that run the electronic gamut.
Ghostly works to emphasize the artist behind the machines, the personalities that drive this music. Through its release history, including the acclaimed Disco Nouveau and Idol Tryouts compilations, the label has received praise from critics and music buyers alike including the annual "Hot Label" nod from Rolling Stone. Ghostly International and its dancefloor counterpart label, Spectral Sound, stay true to their art historical roots, focusing on a strong visual presence and an eye for the smallest detail.
Spectral Sound, dance music counterpart to Ghostly International, began as an outlet for DJ singles from a then-unknown Matthew Dear. Spectral focuses on music with its roots in Midwestern dance culture, namely Detroit and Chicago with a stylistic focus on innovative and compelling techno and house. Other chief artists from the origin in 2000 included area artists Osborne and James T. Cotton whose various singles and EPs have proved the importance and vitality of the North American techno scene. The Spectral landscape has grown beyond its Midwestern roots to include such international artists as Pär Grindvik (Sweden), Daso (Germany), Sami Koivikko (Finland) and Jonas Kopp (Argentina). In 2008, the label also signed Chicago's Kate Simko and Berlin-by-way-of-Detroit artist, Seth Troxler.Site Wide Tags: Dance -

GroupSteven Halpern's Inner Peace Music is the original independent New Age label that markets the best-selling healing music of Steven Halpern. Founded in 1975, Inner Peace Music has always been an artist-run label based in the San Francisco Bay Area. After an early career as a dynamic jazz-rock fusion trumpet and guitar player, Halpern began composing and performing a radically more relaxing form of music. In response to requests from his audiences, and finding no interest at any existing major or independent labels, Halpern launched his own label to market his first album. The enthusiastic response encouraged him to record a second album in 1977, and things took off from there. With no distribution available for his kind of music, he created one by taking his music, along with other artists, to New Age book stores, health food stores, and spearheaded the growth of the alternative music market. Halpern has recorded over 50 major albums and about 40 special niche programs. As composer, recording artist and producer, he has recorded with Paul Horn, David Darling, Paul McCandless, David Friesen, Georgia Kelly, and many other musicians. His early albums featured his trademarked Fender Rhodes and grand piano, in which space, silence, and the power of tone were front and center. In 2012, his latest album, "DEEP ALPHA: Brainwave Entrainment music for Meditation and Healing", received a Grammy nomination for Best New Age album. The atmospheric soundscapes, in which he plays all the keyboards and synths, also include two key tracks that feature Paul McCandless and Michael Manring, respectively inspiring and showcasing their own soaring lyricism and sensitivity. KEYBOARD magazine recognized Steven Halpern as "the first-and definitive- New Age keyboardist...who changed the way we play, and listen to, music." He continues to set the standard of excellence in the sound healing genre, and like good wine, improves with age.Site Wide Tags: New Age
