A2IM invites New York based members to participate in an export trade mission to Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and Seoul (Feb. 28 – Mar. 12, 2012) that A2IM, together with the support of our NY State Commerce and Federal Small Business Association colleagues, is organizing.
Using funds from the NYS Federal STEP Grant awarded to A2IM, our NY state based members are invited to participate in this mission with a maximum contribution of $2000 per participant (on a trip with estimated costs & services totaling approximately $11,000 per participant).
There was an informational meeting held on October 25th (the video of the meeting can be found HERE).
To apply to participate you will need to submit the attached Checklist – Export Readiness and the Application Form to Sheryl Cohen by Friday November 11th. We still need to get you certain information, such as the application NAICS codes, and we will get them to you shortly.
Your application should refer only to your U.S. music business and not include separate legal business entities. That said we plan the trip to include as many revenue stream meetings as possible:
Based upon what came up during the meeting, we need connections with the following groups in each Asian city:
*Recorded music sales – primarily digital licenses but also shipments of physical CD’s too
*Recorded music via Telco subscription services and other subscription services
*Live/Touring
*Merchandising including clothing and other items (for touring and at retail)
*Licensing of music for branding, TV, radio, games, advertisements, etc.

As background, A2IM has received Federal Small Business Association STEP (State Trade and Export Program) Grant funding for our members. This marks the first federal grant received by A2IM, bringing an estimated $200,000 to $250,000 in funding for A2IM members in travel subsidies and overseas field support for both inbound and outbound commerce missions aimed at increasing exports by A2IM’s small and medium-sized New York state based music businesses to China and South Korea.
