Billboard Magazine Covers WIN/A2IM Indie Label Think Tank

Posted in Education, Events by A2IM

Billboard Magazine’s Independent Music Editor, Cortney Harding, attended the WIN/A2IM Indie Label Think Tank during Indie Week in NYC and authored this item about the event and some of the findings of our participants. Cortney agreed to keep the anonymity of any participant offering ideas/opinions because it is important that our Think Tank participants are free to speak their minds so that our members can formulate the best answers to the challenges that face the independent music label community. The article ran in the July 3rd issue of the magazine.

ACTA Update

Posted in Advocacy by A2IM

As we have shared with you previously A2IM supports the need for a global solution to fight piracy and other copyright infringements. Here is the latest letter from our side asking our Government to support strong anti-piracy guidelines in response to a letter that was sent from organizations that  included the Consumer Electronics Association which wants to use our content for free under a “fair use” license.

Licensing Day and Tech Day Wrap-Up

Posted in Editorial, Member Services, Members Only by A2IM

Our inaugural Licensing Day event, brought to you by A2IM’s Licensing/Publishing Committee, kicked the day off with a full house. The general theme of the day’s presentations were businesses who provide background music to other businesses. Clayton Burton opened up presenting the Eos Music platform. Shawn Moseley followed with a thorough overview of Muzak as a company and as a service. Lori Hon closed with excellent sync opportunities Gray V offers to independent music labels. To engage the crowd, we had the presenters all take the stage once again for a brief Q&A. The education continued with a panel discussion on how to position your organization for synchronization opportunities with panelists from a variety of backgrounds comprised of Paul Morgan of Cherry Lane, Dianne Aronica of Drew’s Entertainment / TUTM, Jeremy Peters of Ghostly, Erik Gilbert of IODA, and Dan Holmes of Rumblefish; moderated by Patrick Sullivan of RightsFlow.

After a quick intermission, we continued with Tech Day focusing on social network juggernauts, MySpace and Facebook. The capacity-filled room looked on as the opener, Lisette Paulson, reviewed statistics and marketing opportunities through MySpace Music’s platform. A2IM’s White Paper on MySpace Music (authored by Dorothy Hui of tinyOGRE) will be released soon, so stay tuned. Following Lisette’s announcements, Dr. Ron Suarez of Loud Feed shared with us his data driven methods behind A2IM’s redesigned public homepage. The event then transitioned into a Facebook panel discussion featuring the best and brightest social media maestros. The panel consisted of Chuck Wilson of iHipHop, Tim Heslin of Primary Wave, Tim Foisset of Razor & Tie, and Dorothy Hui of tinyOGRE with Garrett Shelton of Shelton Mediaworks directing the conversation. If you haven’t read it, A2IM’s Facebook White Paper (written by Tim Foisset of Razor & Tie) was recently released. Check it out. We’d like to thank A2IM’s New Media Committee for inviting our presenters and coordinating this part of the day.

A long day of spectating always calls for a drink or ten. So, thanks to our beverage sponsors (Jana Water, Magic Hat and Palaia Vineyards), our members were treated to an hour-long networking mixer to close out the day. This portion of the event, however, wasn’t recorded. Good times ensued.

A very BIG thank you to EMI Label Services/Caroline Distribution and Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp for sponsoring all of Indie Week!

You can view photos taken from Indie Week and video from Licensing Day and Tech Day.

Feedback: For those who attended, we’d greatly appreciate if you’d fill out this two question survey. It will only take a minute. We promise. Thank you.
