Pelosi, Durbin Back Fair Pay for Radio Airplay

Join growing bipartisan chorus in support of Performance Rights Act

Watch Speaker Pelosi and Senator Durbin’s remarks at GRAMMYs on the Hill here. A copy of Speaker Pelosi’s remarks is available here. Read the Obama Administration’s letter here.

WASHINGTON, April 21, 2010—The musicFIRST Coalition today announced that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin have added their voices to the growing, bipartisan chorus of support in favor of the Performance Rights Act, which would ensure that artists, musicians and rights holders are paid when their music is played radio stations. This comes on the heel of statements of support for musician royalties from the Obama Administration as well as support for a performance right royalty from Grover Norquist, anti-tax advocate and President of Americans for Tax Reform. This support was highlighted in an ad in today’s Roll Call, which was paid for by the musicFIRST Coalition, and can be viewed here.

A2IM Statement On Anti-Counterfeiting (ACTA) Agreement

Posted in Press Releases by A2IM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 21, 2010

The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) strongly supports, and continues to advocate for the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (“ACTA”) and applauds President Obama’s leadership in pushing for respect and enforceable protection of copyright and intellectual property internationally.

As the trade organization representing American independent music labels, our community of content creators contributes greatly to the rich cultural history — and to the economy, including exports — of the United States. But in order to continue creating diverse, compelling music for fans, the artists who make music and those who invest in them must be able to make a living.

A2IM’s members are local businesses and creators from across the United States, often with fewer resources than the companies that profit from the use of our music without our permission. The failure of governments to provide an integrated and strategic response has resulted in severe harm to our industry in general and to independent labels and artists in particular. It is very difficult to imagine any enforcement regime that does not include international cooperation which is the laudable purpose of ACTA.

Performance Right Act Update

Posted in Advocacy by A2IM

Something everyone should agree is fair is that the creators of sound recordings and those that invest in that creation should be paid when their music is played by AM/FM radio. musicFIRST Coalition has created this ad that demonstrates the bi-partisan agreement we have on this issue.
