FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – FEBRUARY 18, 2010
Serving the twin priorities of education and charting a roadmap for the future of independent music, A2IM is stepping up their popular Tech Day program with a pair of events devoted to the rapidly expanding role of social media in the music business – and ways to effectively employ new platforms from an independent’s perspective.
Slated for February 23 in New York at the Recording Academy’s New York Chapter, and March 18th in Austin during a SXSW breakfast meeting, the events will serve not only as seminars and workshops, but as showcases for the work of A2IM’s New Media Committee, who will be unveiling its latest A2IM white paper: “Social Networking – An Introduction.”
For those just starting to fully integrate social networks such as MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter in to their marketing programs, to indies with comprehensive digital promotions, the white paper is an asset representing the best ideas and practices drawn from all corners of the independent community.
Says A2IM New Media Committee member (and contributing author), Jon Satterley (Roadrunner Records, SVP of New Media & Global Business Development): “Social networks offer one of the great marketing hopes for the music industry, that much is clear. But where should music companies and labels start? How can you make an impact? Where should you be allocating resources? The white paper opens up these many questions and (hopefully) helps the reader commence the navigation process.”
Included in this year’s panels are the leaders in the field at firms including In-Style Digital Marketing, Razor & Tie, Roadrunner Records, TAG Strategic, Toolshed, and Wind-Up Records, each presenting and discussing the multi-faceted world of social networking with A2IM members and associates.
Marking the fifth year of the invitation only Tech Day series, the New York event will also celebrate the debut of the upgraded and expanded A2IM website, while the Austin event will feature a presentation from MySpace (an A2IM member).
The New York event will be followed by a cocktail reception, with thanks to the event’s co-hosts EMI Label Services/Caroline Distribution, Gray V and the Recording Academy, and a subsequent two-day event from A2IM member Digital Media Wire’s Digital Music Forum East (DMFE) featuring contributions from 16 A2IM colleagues during the panel discussions.
