ONE LOCATION: HUNDREDS OF INDIES

A2IM-CREATED AMERICAN INDEPENDENTS PAVILION CELEBRATES FIFTH YEAR AT MIDEM, PROMISES TO BE FOCAL POINT OF WORLD’S LARGEST MUSIC BUSINESS TRADE EVENT

In a testament both to a robust and thriving American independent music community and the resourcefulness of a sector holding its own on the world stage single-handedly, the American Independents Pavilion at this week’s MIDEM convention promises to be a central draw, showcasing over 100 U.S. based independent music companies under one umbrella.

Created and organized by the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) and Midem, the pavilion is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. Says A2IM Vice President Jim Mahoney, “It’s an incredibly diverse group, from labels in every genre to partners and associate members with a wide variety of expertise, and it’s a pleasure to show the world the sense of real identity and kinship that brings the community together.”

A2IM President Rich Bengloff adds, “A2IM is especially proud to be able to make a strong showing, given the competition from foreign government supported efforts. We’re hopeful that U.S. funding for the arts will see a renewed emphasis in the near future, but as of now we’re one of the only countries present that does not receive official government sponsorship and support while we’re promoting one of this country’s largest exports around the world.”

The A2IM American Independents Pavilion is located at R36.18 at the trade show with a large terrace overlooking the French Riviera. Key events include “Meet The USA” international speed dating (Sunday, 1/24), the International Indie Summit (Tuesday, 1/26 and Wednesday, 1/27), and A2IM’s nightly sunset cocktail parties co-hosted by Counterpoint Systems, RightsFlow, and SoundExchange (Sunday-Tuesday, 5p-7p).

About A2IM:

Launched on July 4th, 2005 to represent the needs of the independent music label community, this year A2IM will celebrate its fifth anniversary as the sector’s pre-eminent advocacy group and trade organization.
